Pollock, Bachrach & Turner: Paintings and Monotypes — Reception Sept 7th

For September/October we present an impressive collection of paintings and monotype prints by area artists, Jessie Pollock, Evelien Bachrach and William C. Turner in a new exhibition which opens on September 1, 2018 and lasts through October 15th.

An artist’s reception will be held on Friday, September 7 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The public is invited to attend.

JESSIE POLLOCK

Known as an encaustic painter, Jessie Pollock presents new work based on a recent painting trip she took to explore the “Thin Places” of Northern Ireland — a Celtic term describing "special" places where heaven is closest to earth. These works are a series of seven very striking abstract drawings combining finely sprinkled paint and ink with graphite and other media, many of which feature a dark, thin, haunting figure central to the composition and which repeats as a theme in three larger, vertical encaustic paintings. These last works echo the rich textures of the drawings but in a more textural way.

EVELIEN BACHRACH

Evelien Bachrach presents a series of large monotypes on paper printed using pieces of artfully arranged steel wool to block the ink from the paper’s surface, resulting in compositions which are soft and organic, almost undersea-like through the use of cool blues and green inks. Also on display are several medium size oil landscapes done in an impressionistic style and two still lifes of fruit, all of which were rendered using a palette knife in a distinctive loose and sketchy style.

WILLIAM C. TURNER

William C. Turner specializes in narrative realism and on display are four original oil paintings on one of his favorite subjects, distressed vehicles, many of which lay abandoned in the fields of New England farms. These could include old cars, trucks and farm work vehicles. He paints them with great skill and often enjoys including a touch of whimsy by including animals or mythological icons in the composition.
